Women who lead, earn and say no to violence

Women's economic empowerment and leadership are among the strongest protections against gender-based violence (GBV) and child marriage. We build the agency, skills and income of young people and women so they can make their own choices and stand up for their rights.

500+ active youth leaders from 22 districts

Wreetu has built a nationwide network of more than 500 active young leaders. We train them to lead sessions on menstrual health and SRHR, run campaigns, raise their voices against sexual harassment in schools and communities, and raise small grants for their own youth-led organisations. This is meaningful youth engagement and locally-led change in action.

Leadership, self-identity and skills for women

Through our women's leadership, self-identity and sewing skills training, women from marginalised communities discover their strengths, build confidence and learn a trade. Many now earn their own income, and with it they gain a stronger voice at home and in the community to stand against gender-based violence.

Decent work in our production unit

120 women from marginalised communities work in our factory in Mirpur, Dhaka, producing our certified washable sanitary napkins. This work won the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2023. We have also trained women from Dhaka's slums to make sanitary napkins as a new source of income.

Workplaces

We run menstrual health and well-being sessions in garment (RMG) factories, companies and offices, and advise employers on women-friendly toilets, washrooms and access to period products.

Campaigns

We campaign during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Awareness Week, and we integrate safety, consent and respect into all our sessions.

For the first time ever, I didn't feel uncomfortable.
