A safe toilet is a right, not a luxury

Without a safe, private toilet, a woman on her period waits until dark and a girl stays home from school. In line with SDG 6.2, we work for equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, with special attention to the needs of women and girls.

How we build

We build and renovate women-friendly toilets and shower places together with communities. They are designed to be private, safe and accessible for women, pregnant mothers, older people, children and persons with disabilities.

Communities are involved from design to construction, and then maintain the facilities themselves under our supervision, ensuring sustainability.

Shah Paran Settlement, Kalshi, Dhaka

We renovated 63 toilets and 34 shower places in this densely populated settlement of the Urdu-speaking Bihari community. Now in its fourth phase, the project is building community members' skills to sustain the facilities.

Patharghata, Barguna

In this cyclone-prone coastal area, we built toilets for the Bede (river-dwelling) community, one of Bangladesh's most marginalised groups.

It's not just the toilets and showers. It's that we are being heard, that our needs matter.
